Love in the city! Surprise proposal photography in Toronto!

When I got a phone call from Mexico I didn’t think it would be for this…

I’ll be honest, when I first got a call from an international number in Mexico that I didn’t know I automatically assumed it was going to be a telemarketer letting me know I “won” a cruise. Little did I know I was about to speak to a really nice lady named Stephanie who told me about her company, Memoricks, which connects travelers with local photographers in the city they’re travelling to that they can book during their vacation. She explained to me how she came across my name in a Reddit post when she had searched for “Surprise proposal photographers in Toronto” and was linked to a thread where somebody had suggested me (thanks whoever you are!).

After sorting out some details in regards to how they work with payments Stephanie told me about a couple that she had travelling from Mexico to Toronto at the end of the week and unbeknownst to the female traveler, her boyfriend’s plan was to make her his fiancee. We came up with a cover story for how I would “bump into the couple” outside of the Royal York Hotel which they were staying at, explain that I was downtown and had a cancellation for a shoot and was curious if the couple would be my stand in models and take the couple to our  predetermined location (Nathan Phillips Square in front of City Hall) where he would propose.

I had packed a single rose and safely tucked it into my backpack and after we descended on Nathan Phillips square and taken a few photos I told him that I had a prop that I thought would be great, I handed him the rose, and as I distracted his girlfriend with posing for some photos he reached back and pulled out a box and got down on one knee. The moment she realized what was going on she dropped down to the ground and they held each other in a loving embrace. She said yes!

Everything went off without a hitch!

In fact, it was better than that. She had never traveled outside of Mexico in her life and on top it of had never seen snow, so she was more caught up in the amazement of seeing snow to have even thought that something was fishy about randomly running into a photographer. Later she explained that she just thought that Canada and Canadians were really nice and she didn’t think anything was strange about it.

That was truly an awesome little love story to be a part of and one that I’m certain none of us will ever soon forget.
